Research Summary
Through the Department of Community Medicine (Preventative and Social Medicine), two studies done between August 2014 and May 2015.
Medical students with the Department of Community Medicine at Dr. TMA Pai Rotary Hospital, Karkala. This secondary care hospital additionally serves as a rural Preventative and Social Medicine teaching site.
Study 1 (2014):
Rural community survey of residents in Udupi District, KA. We used a modified Uday Pareek scale against disease risk factors and prevalence. We traveled door-to-door through the district, collecting data from families. My team was assigned to the slum and poorer areas. Our goal was to survey incidence and prevalence of common endemic diseases, treatment compliance, and the socioeconomic determinants which affect these rates.
Study 2 (2015):
Assessing empathy in medical students as they advance through training. Students from first year through internship were surveyed with the Jefferson Scale of Empathy, Student Version. My team collected data and analyzed it with SPSS. https://dx.doi.org/10.18203/2394-6040.ijcmph20180463
