Camps organized by the Dept of Ophthalmology serve to screen village populations which otherwise would not
travel to healthcare centers. The most significant role of a camp is to screen and treat cases of preventable
blindness (National Programme for Control of Blindness). We perform onsite evaluation of refractive errors and
provide glasses. Additionally, we screen for diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, which are largely prevalent in
India.

Rural medicine camps are temporary remote healthcare facilities that are created by our medical school in southern Karnataka.
